Kaspersky Lab: “Hackers are preparing to attack metaverses more actively”

Computer security experts at Kaspersky Lab expect metaverses to attract significant hacker attention within the next year.

In the Cyber Threats to Consumers report:forecast for 2023” representatives of the Russian company noted that now there are only a few large platforms for metaverses. However, the industry continues to develop rapidly and the number of platforms will increase significantly in the coming years. At the same time, insufficient attention is paid to the protection of consumer data, as well as to the rules of content moderation.

“Since metaverses are universal and notare subject to regional data protection laws, such as the GDPR, this can create complex conflicts about the regulation and protection of user data,” the report’s authors emphasize.

In addition to data leakage, dangers also arise fromother attacks on metaverse users, including fraud, virtual abuse, and sexual harassment. Kaspersky Lab specialists urge developers to create mechanisms to protect against such dangers.

Note that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg still sees
There is enormous potential in metaverses and believes that within ten years they will replace many familiar things in people’s surroundings.
