Israel launches digital shekel testing

The Bank of Israel told about the beginning of testing the digital shekel.

As noted by Deputy Governor of the Central Bank AndrewAbir, National Digital Currency (CBDC) will only be issued by the regulator. All operations with such a tool will become as transparent as possible.

Testing is already in full swing, but the representative of the Israeli Central Bank did not disclose the details of the process for testing the token.

Based on the test results, the Central Bank planscarry out work to assess the prospects and risks of introducing an innovative tool. Aber acknowledges the enormous potential of the CBDC, but the official strongly opposes the acceptance of bitcoin as a means of payment.

The Deputy Governor of the Bank of Israel stressed:

«What we are talking about [CBDC], — Thispayment system. Bitcoin — it is not a payment system or a currency. At best it is a financial asset, and at worst — This is an ordinary pyramid».
