Ethereum miners criticized the proposal to reduce the reward by another 75%

Many Ethereum miners have opposed the sharpreduction of the reward for block 0.5 ETH, proposed by the developers in EIP-2878, as this would make mining on GPUs unprofitable.

Ethereum improvement proposal from 11August provides for a reduction in the award by 75% (from 2 to 0.5 ETH). The project team argues that such changes will roughly equal the rate of ether inflation with the level of Bitcoin, gradually increasing its value.

Miners criticized the plan, saying that the proposal was moredegree focused on the interests of investors thanto maintain the security of the network. In their opinion, reducing the reward to 0.5 ETH without changing the algorithm is too drastic and makes mining on video cards unprofitable, which will lead to a noticeable decrease in hashrate and increased centralization.

At the same time, since in June miners' income reached a two-year maximum, they, in principle, are not against another reduction in the reward, but they consider a reduction in the range of 25-50% more reasonable.
