BlockFi asks the court to authorize the return of blocked funds to customers

Cryptocurrency lender BlockFi is asking the court to unblock user accounts and their assets stored in the service's locked crypto wallets.

In a petition filed Dec. 19 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey, BlockFi asksThe court will allow users to withdraw funds from cryptocurrency wallets blocked after the suspension of the platform on November 10.

Additionally, the crypto lender asks the judiciary for permission to update the user interface to correctly reflect transactions at the timesuspension of the platform.

"We believe that customers who hold digital assets in their BlockFi wallet accounts should have the right to withdraw them," the service said in its petition.

BlockFi draws the court's attention to the fact that these actions are targeted in natureand will not automatically unblock withdrawals or transfers from BlockFi interest-bearing accounts.According to media reports, a hearing on whether to grant BlockFi's petition is scheduled for January 9.

At the end of November, BlockFi's lawyer said that the bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange FTX and its related company Alameda Research owed the crypto lender more than $1 billion.
