BitRiver will start mining bitcoin on associated gas from Gazprom Neft

Gazprom Neft will provide mining facilities with electricity, and the data center operator will handledevelopment of digital infrastructure in the oil fields.

Data center operator BitRiver willuse for mining electricity generated from associated petroleum gas of Gazprom Neft. The corresponding memorandum of cooperation was signed by the companies at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Gazprom Neft will provide partner centersprocessing data with electricity, and BitRiver will develop digital infrastructure in the oil fields and implement services based on the computing power being created, the document says.

The memo states that the business modelGazprom Neft does not include work with digital currencies - the company’s goal is to develop new ways of beneficial use of associated petroleum gas. The infrastructure for energy-intensive computing, powered by associated petroleum gas, already exists at Gazprom Neft enterprises in three regions.

It was previously noted that Oman would useassociated gas for bitcoin mining, reducing harmful emissions into the atmosphere. The wealth fund of a Middle Eastern country bought for $350 million a stake in the American company Crusoe Energy Systems Inc, which specializes in cryptocurrency mining using energy from the disposal of excess fuel.
