Anatoly Aksakov: “In 2023, we will certainly legalize cryptocurrency in Russia”

Chairman of the State Duma Committee on the Financial Market at the RBC forum “Crypto. Cryptocurrencies, mining and digital assets” announced that digital assets will definitely be legalized in the new year.

Anatoly Aksakov emphasized that the authorities do notplan to allow the use of cryptocurrencies as a means of payment within the country. But such payments will be available to pay for supplies and services of foreign partners.

“I can assure everyone that crypto is like a legalWe will definitely have a product next year, there will definitely be legislation. I hope that the deputies will support and the president will sign. Because conciliation procedures have already been regulated. Next year, crypto will be in the legal field, I can only say unequivocally that it cannot be used in the Russian Federation as a means of payment for internal payments,” the parliamentarian promised.

The deputy noted that already somecompanies use cryptocurrencies to pay for overseas shipments. But the government wants to provide, as Aksakov puts it, a legal basis for such international payments. A separate issue will be the taxation of goods purchased with cryptocurrencies.

It was assumed that the relevant law would be adopted before the end of 2022, but approvals and discussions take up time.

“Unfortunately, not everything goes as fast as I doI would like to. We hoped to move everything faster, but there are conciliation procedures that we cannot step through. We hope that these procedures will be completed in the near future,” said the chairman of the committee.

Earlier, the State Duma legal department noted shortcomings and contradictions in the bill on the regulation of cryptocurrencies and mining, which is being promoted by Anatoly Aksakov.
