Aerion has announced plans to produce a commercial supersonic aircraft that will fly 4 times faster than the speed of sound.

Construction of a 50-seat AS3TM airlinershould be completed in 2027. According to the company, it will be able to reach speeds of up to 4,800 km / h (twice the speed of the Concorde) and fly about 13,000 km without landing, which is enough for most long-haul flights.

Ultimately, Aerion wants to give people the ability to get anywhere in the world in less than 3 hours.

The company also recently announcedproduction of an administrative supersonic aircraftAS2, which has already received more than eighty pre-orders. However, the outlook for demand for AS3 remains questionable due to the downward trend in air travel, face-to-face meetings and other global fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Boeing is one of the company's investors and partners.

Recall that since December, researchers have been testing a new type of jet engine that will allow aircraft to fly 16 times faster than the speed of sound.
