Hackers put up for sale a key to a wallet with $ 700 million in bitcoins

Unknown people are selling a file, the decryption of which should open access to a vault containing 69 thousand bitcoins. Butthere is no guarantee that this key will actually give access to the wallet that hackers have been trying to break for over two years.

Hackers have been trying to hack for at least 2 yearsa wallet that holds more than 69,000 bitcoins, or about $ 700 million in cryptocurrency, Alon Gal, CTO of cybercrime company Hudson Rock, told Vice.

The expert said that on September 7 at one of thehacker forums, a request appeared to hack a wallet with the address 1HQ3Go3ggs8pFnXuHVHRytPCq5fGG8Hbhx. This is a common practice: cybercriminals somehow obtain the private key leading to the cryptocurrency wallet. If it cannot be hacked, an attempt is made to sell the data to hackers who have more opportunities to open the crypto-storage, although in practice this is almost impossible.

Gal clarified that the offers to sell arethis wallet has been appearing on the network for the past two years. But the irony is that the private key that cybercriminals are offering to buy may not be related to the 69K BTC vault. Technically, scammers could create a duplicate address. The blockchain shows as if it contains cryptocurrency, although in reality the private key that is sold on the network can lead to another wallet. You can find out the truth only if you purchase the file and decrypt it.

At the end of May, a MasterChangz user said, that is trying to hack a wallet with a cryptocurrency, picking up the key to it using the brute-force method. Experts estimate that this will take him over 38 nonillion years, namely 38,593,493 520 073 954 175 290 747 912 192 years.
