Scientists have created an ultra-thin endoscope for blood vessels

The researchers developed an endoscope so thin that it can be used to visualize the blood vessels in mice.

Using a 3D printer, a group of scientists fromThe University of Adelaide and the University of Stuttgart printed complex camera lenses at the end of an optical fiber thinner than a human hair. Although the lenses are so small that they cannot be seen with the naked eye, they are of very high quality.

According to the team, the thickness of the endoscope in the protective cover does not exceed0.5mm, making it the thinnest of its kindSmall size and high-quality lenses allow you toDoctors can monitor the formation and development of cholesterol plaques from the inside of blood vessels, helping to study the main factors of various diseases.

In the long term, the device will help improve diagnostics, understanding the causes of diseases of the heart and blood vessels, and, therefore, methods of their treatment and prevention.

We also previously reported on the development of a new non-invasive method for administering drugs through the skin.
