179 darknet sellers arrested in EU and US

Law enforcement agencies in the United States and Europe announced the arrest of 179 traffickers of prohibited goods.

In the operation,dubbed Operation DisrupTor, investigators from Europe and the United States participated.

As a result of the special operation, more than $6.5 million, 64 firearms and more than 500 kilograms of narcotic substances were confiscated around the world.The illicit supply chain of opioids, a class of highly addictive drugs that has claimed the lives of many Americans in recent years, has also been exposed.More than two-thirds of the arrests occurred in the U.S., officials said. 

The accounts of darknet vendors have been identified and attributed to real individuals selling illegal goods on darknet sites such as AlphaBay, Dream, WallStreet, Nightmare, Empire, White House, DeepSea, Dark Market, and the like. 

Operation DisrupTor led to 121 arrests inThe United States, including two in Canada at the request of the US, 42 in Germany, 8 in the Netherlands, 4 in the UK, 3 in Austria and 1 in Sweden. According to Europol, in the course of investigations, persons involved in criminal activities may still be identified and further arrests of persons behind accounts on the darknet may follow.
