Twitter introduced Tip Jar in May 2021.The function allows you to send so-called tips to users of the social network as a reward. Tip Jar originally supported payments through Bandcamp, Cash App, Patreon, PayPal, and Venmo.

While Bitcoin is not available for selection in beta, however, the opportunity was found in the code.

According to a screenshot from developer Alessandro Paluzzi, users will need an account in the Lightning Network-powered Strike app to make payments through Tip Jar.

In June, company CEO Jack Dorsey allowed the Lightning Network to be integrated into Twitter.

Later, the CEO announced the introduction of Bitcoin into Twitter services, including Tip Jar, and named cryptocurrency as one of three key trends shaping the future of the social network.

In 2019, Dorsey called it a matter of time before the Lightning Network was integrated into Square's Cash App, of which he is also CEO.

In 2020, Square's cryptocurrency division announced the creation of a development kit to make it easier to implement the Lightning Network into wallets.
