A bill passed by the Senate will protect mining companies froma wide range of anti-industry actions, as well as limit the ability of local governments to combat mining.
The Montana State Senate has overwhelmingly supported a new bill aimed at protecting the rights of bitcoin (BTC) miners.Under the new rules, local administrations are prohibited from raising utility rates for miners and levying additional taxes on cryptocurrency transactions.
According to the non-profit human rights group Satoshi Action Fundce, which took an active part in the preparation of this bill, this measure will allowThe decline in market prices for crypto assets during the long crypto winter, combined with increased energy costs due to rising inflation, has caused unprecedented difficulties for even the largest BTC miners.
Previously, a similar bill aimed atto protect the rights of miners, tentatively titled “Right to Mine,” was supported by the Mississippi State Senate. The new law would allow individuals to run cryptocurrency mining nodes at home and also recognizes mining's potential to strengthen the economy and stabilize the state's power grid.
