Russian physicists have discovered a new quasiparticle in qubit chains

Researchers have discovered that in qubit chainsa new type of quasiparticles may arise – doublon topological excitations. The discovery can be used to develop new materials for quantum computers.

Quantum computer technology is based onsimultaneous interaction of many qubits. However, they are very sensitive to the environment and are subject to decoherence, which reduces their service life. The difficulty of maintaining the required state increases as the scale of the system increases, whichslows down their study.

Therefore, scientists from the NationalResearch Technological University "MISiS" used a model of artificial matter made of qubits, obeying the same equations as the real one. The simulation showed that in arrays of coupled superconducting bosonic pairs, called doublons, two bands and a boundary state are formed due to the alternation of strong and weak bonds.

Thus, for the first time Russian scientists succeededdemonstrate that a new type of quasi-part can arise in qubit chains – doublon topological excitations. This feature could help create disorder-resistant quantum metamaterials.

Let us recall that physicists have also recently proven that subatomic particles can spontaneously transform into their own antiparticle and back.
