Hackers Hacked Indian Media Account for Fake XRP Giveaway

Unknown persons hacked the official account of the popular Indian news channel News 24 with more than 1.3 million followers on Twitter, posting a message about the distribution of 100,000,000 coinsXRP.

A tweet was posted from the News 24 account saying that the CEORipple's Brad Garlinghouse organized a first-come, first-served airdrop of his XRP cryptocurrency to users in appreciation for their continued support.The link sent users to a suspicious website that was created specifically to empty the wallets of gullible users.

"To celebrate the power of XRP around the world, we are proud to announce the opening of an annual airdrop of 100,000,000 XRP to every Ripple user.Nothing done at Ripple Labs would be possible without our community," the scammers wrote in a tweet.

This isn't the first time attackers have impersonated Brad Garlinghouse to promote fraudulent cryptocurrency giveaways on social media.In 2020, a Ripple executive sued YouTube for posting fake videos fromon his behalf, accusing the platform of its negligenceruin the company's reputation.
