Broken Municipal Network in Italy Requires 50 BTC

The municipality of Rieti in Italy is struggling with the consequences of a hack that affected its network and prevents its correct functioninguse. To remove the dangerous software, hackers consumed about 50 bitcoins (BTC).

We are talking about the ransomware program, which asks for bitcoins to decode all locked files, which have become unavailable for operators.

It is believed that the attack was due to the fact that during the video conference in Zoom, an unknown account was connected to the event, which was taken into account

A positive point should be considered that the municipality has a backup copy and a cloud system that allows you to restore the entire network. Of course, a small part of the data will inevitably be lost.

At the present time, the police are investigating, starting from the episode with video conferencing, and are trying to establish the identity of the perpetrator, but the given authorization is correct.

According to unofficial information, the ransom amount demanded by cybercriminals amounts to 50 BTC, or approximately half a million euros, which will be completely released.

Not so long ago, Tesla managed to avoid a ransomware attack that could inflict millions of dollars in damage to production and electric vehicles.
