Bitcoin hashrate started 2020 with a record

Bitcoin started the new year 2020 with a record – the hash rate of the cryptocurrency network exceeded againall-time highs and amounted to 119EH/s.

Bitcoin network hash growth trendstarted last fall. In September, the network hash rate exceeded 80 EH / s, in December it exceeded 90 EH / s, and on January 1, 2020, Blockchain.com recorded a hash rate of 119 (EH / s).

This jump in hash rate significantly increased the network's security and resistance to a 51% attack.

In addition, last year was a record forthe number of processed transactions on the blockchain and by their volume. The increase in the number of transactions is associated with the introduction of SegWit, which allows you to place more transfers in one large transaction. The growth in annual transaction volume is associated with the price movement of the MTC and increased activity of traders.

Many experts see growing speeda hash is a signal for an upcoming price hike. Some explain the unprecedented growth of the approaching halving and the desire of miners to get more coins before reducing the reward.
