Alibaba patented a system to simplify blockchain interworking

Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba said the company's patented "unifiedDomain Name System ”will simplify and improve communication between blockchains.

In a patent issued by the Patent Office.and United States Trademarks and Trademarks (USPTO), Alibaba claims that the firm's domain name system can provide connectivity between blockchains. Such communication will be simpler and more efficient than in existing solutions for interaction between blockchains, for example, in the Cosmos project.

According to the company, assignment is universalRecognized domain names to blockchains or parts of the blockchain can provide better identification and interaction with other chains in a wider network. In many ways, this will happen by analogy with how objects recognize and communicate with each other using domain names, for example, “.com” or “.org”.

The patent assumes that the problemexisting systems is that they can become too bulky. For example, Cosmos requires that each blockchain store separate identifiers for each connection connecting it to another blockchain. They cannot be reused, and this means that the identification system has only a “local context”.

Alibaba claims that in its blockchain systemyou need only one unified blockchain domain name (UBCDN), recognized and valid in all interactions with other chains without exception. It also means that the blockchain can exchange data with other systems, without the need to constantly expand the address book with specific identification data.

“Unlike existing implementations forinterconnection, for example, Cosmos, UBCDN can be used and recognized globally by all blockchains in a unified network, regardless of how many network connections it has on, ”the patent says.

Obtaining a patent does not mean that the companywill use it. It is unclear whether Alibaba has any specific plans to launch a domain name system. A possible viable place to implement Alibaba's new proprietary system could be its subsidiary Ant Financial's blockchain platform, which was launched in April.

Let us recall that this spring Alibaba received a patent for a blockchain system that allows one to determine the originality of musical compositions and resist copyright infringers.
