Sberbank may issue crypto-tokens pegged to the ruble

Sberbank of Russia may issue its own tokens for settlements on digital financial assets (DFAs). AboutThis writes "Kommersant" with reference to the statement of the director of the banking division of the transactional business Sergei Popov.

According to Popov, the proposed instrument could take the form of a stablecoin and be pegged to the ruble.

“We can probably release on the basis ofthe law that was passed, a token that we can peg to the ruble. Such an appropriate stablecoin, which can become the basis, a settlement instrument for some other digital financial assets "- he explained.

Recall that Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the law on CFA last Friday. The document was previously approved by the State Duma.

The CFA Law allows the use of regulatedRF digital assets in transactions. Digital rights are understood as digital rights, including monetary claims, which are recorded in an information system using distributed ledger technology.

Russian banks and exchanges will be able to become operators of the CFA exchange after their inclusion in the special register of the Central Bank. At the same time, the law prohibits the use of cryptocurrencies for settlements on the territory of the Russian Federation.
