WhatsApp has launched a pilot version of a project that will allow a limited number of people to exchange cryptocurrency within the messenger.

This function is based on a digital walletby Meta (formerly Facebook) called Novi. The wallet itself was launched in a pilot version a month and a half ago. Payments will be made in Pax Dollar (USDP), a USD-pegged stablecoin issued by the Paxos blockchain platform. The announcement was made by Novi CEO Stephen Kasriel and WhatsApp Specialist Will Cathcart.

According to Novi, the payment will bedone in the same way as sending any other attachment in a WhatsApp message. The developers note that there will be no commission charged for sending or receiving cryptocurrency, and there are also no plans for restrictions on the frequency of sending and commissions for withdrawing digital assets to a bank account.

Transactions are processed instantly, and the new functionality does not affect the confidentiality of personal calls and messages in the messenger.
