The digital economy will become one of the country’s development priorities, said Vladimir Putin’s nomineePrime Minister candidate Mikhail Mishustinduring a meeting with parliamentary factions. According to him, as a result of reforms, the state should become a digital platform designed “for people,” TASS reports.
“The first thing we want to do is seriouslyengage in institutional reforms. Management reforms, bring the latest digital technologies ... No doubt, the state should be a digital platform that is created for people ”- said Mishustin.
In November 2019, he emphasized the effectiveness ofdigital platforms. However, their introduction into the economy can pose a threat to industries, as it will compete with them, said the candidate for the post of prime minister, Kommersant reports.
“Digital platforms are new efficiency. But this is a threat to entire sectors of the economy. Airbnb is great and a threat to hotels. What will happen to the automotive market due to the emergence of platforms and unmanned vehicles, we do not know ”- suggested Mishustin.
In November 2018, Mishustin redirected a questionthe creation of the digital ruble of the Central Bank of Russia. Moreover, the emergence of alternative payment systems should be prevented, the candidate emphasized, Vedomosti reports.
“This is a question for the Central Bank. But, of course, we need to think about how to prevent the creation of an alternative system that is not related to the state ”- says Mishustin.
In November 2017, Mishustin revealed hisattitude to cryptocurrencies. In his opinion, at that time they were a financial instrument, and for them to become real money, a “whole story” should happen.
“To become money, this is the whole story thatshould happen. Once paper money, when introduced into circulation, no one believed in it, the corresponding reserves of central banks had to be provided with a gold reserve. Today, cryptocurrency is a financial instrument ”- explained Mishustin.
The head of the Federal Tax Service added that cryptocurrency transactions should be taxed. In this case, it is necessary to correctly assess the consequences that the use of digital money can lead to.
“I am convinced that it is necessary to tax such operations, but correctly correctly assessing the economic consequences of using cryptocurrency”- said Mishustin.
