US Treasury Discusses Cryptocurrency Regulation Issues

Yesterday, March 2, the US Treasury held a meeting with representatives of the cryptocurrency industry, at which participants discussed industry regulation issues.

According to a press release, besides officials andrepresentatives of cryptocurrency companies, regulatory experts attended the meeting. The participants discussed ways to prevent money laundering and terrorist financing, as well as other illegal actions in the cryptocurrency environment. Officials emphasized that they were not going to tolerate the use of cryptocurrencies for illegal activities.

"USA welcomes responsible implementationinnovations, including new technologies that can make the financial system more efficient. We must strike a balance between innovation and protecting our national security, as well as maintaining the integrity of our financial system, ”said US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.

The day before, the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) added 20 Bitcoin addresses belonging to members of the Lazarus hacker group to the “sanctions list”.
