UPS develops quieter and more versatile delivery drones

UPS began working with Wingcopter, a German aircraft manufacturer, to jointly develop a new type of unmanned aerial vehicle.

Partners will modernize the existing Wingcopter drone model with the aim of adapting it to provide various commercial services for the delivery of small cargoes.

UPS's attention was drawn to the presence of dronesThe German company has a rotor tilt mechanism that allows them to switch between vertical take-off mode and horizontal flight with fixed wings. As a resultsuch drones can land and rise inconfined spaces, then fly quickly and quietly to your next destination. This makes them a promising option for commercial delivery in the city.

In addition, Wingcopter UAVs have already proven themselves in various fields and the ability to perform their task even in adverse weather conditions.

So far, UPS has focused on drone developmentfor the delivery of food and medical supplies. However, the ultimate goal of the joint project is to create a universal drone that can deliver goods to companies from various industries.

The American military has already become interested in such a hybrid UAV model. They began testing Quantum-Systems drones for mobile combat units.
