UN leadership abandons WhatsApp app

UN officials have been advised to stop using WhatsApp for work because the app does notguarantees security to users. This was announced at a briefing on January 23 by UN Deputy Secretary General Farhan Hack.

This decision was made afterInvestigations into hacking the phone of American billionaire and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. An examination showed that the phone was infected with the well-known spyware Pegasus, which used WhatsApp to infect the device. Within a few hours after receiving the message in the messenger, a lot of confidential data was downloaded from the Bezos phone.

Facebook previously filed a lawsuit against the Israeli firm NSO Group, which allegedly uses WhatsApp to track network users.

Over the past year, criticism of application vulnerabilitiesWhatsapp sounded repeatedly. Pavel Durov is confident that the WhatsApp development team does not intentionally eliminate the numerous vulnerabilities and holes in the system that give access to personal data not only to hackers, but also to government agencies.

Since December 31, users of Windows Phone-based smartphones have been denied access to the WhatsApp messenger.
