Football fans in Europe will join blockchain supporters thanks to a new Union initiativeEuropean Football Associations (UEFA).
According to a statement dated 17 February, UEFAwill distribute more than a million tickets to football matches through a blockchain-enabled mobile application. The organization claims that this new ticketing system will make "stadium entry smooth, safe and secure."
New Ticket Based SolutionThe blockchain is designed to prevent copying and circulation of tickets through “QR codes activated by Bluetooth only when fans are in the immediate vicinity of the stadium.” The app will be available for download at the end of May for Android and iOS devices.
Tickets will go on sale no later than sevendays before the match. According to this scheme, “UEFA plans to deliver more than a million mobile tickets for 51 matches to fans.” This decision is dictated by an attempt to simplify the distribution of tickets for a series of games that are expected to attract great interest.
UEFA also said that digital tickets will help reduce paper consumption and are more convenient for football fans.
This initiative is based on a successful rollout.mobile ticket systems in August 2018 for the UEFA football match for the Super Bowl between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid held in Tallinn (Estonia).
