One million tickets for Euro 2020 football matches can be purchased via blockchain
UEFA announced thatwill distribute more than 1 million tickets for the matches of the European Football Championship 2020 through a mobile application built on the basis of the blockchain.
According to the authors of the initiative, the new ticketthe system will “make entry into stadiums quick and easy.” In addition, tickets will be protected from counterfeiting thanks to the use of blockchain. The ticket will only be activated via Bluetooth when the fan is already close to the entrance to the stadium.
Tickets for football matches will be available atapplication no later than 7 days before the competition. Considering that the next European Championship is expected to be the most massive in terms of the number of fans, the possibility of buying tickets online through the mobile application and automatically registering when entering the stadium will be popular. E-tickets will help reduce paper usage and will be more convenient for fans.
Using blockchain to issue tickets ishighly effective way to combat fakes. It is reported that by the end of May the application will be available for users of the Android and iOS mobile operating systems.
This is not the first time UEFA has experimented withdistributed registry technology. Back in 2018, for a match between Spanish clubs Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid, all tickets were sold through a blockchain-based mobile application.
At the end of last year, it was reported that UEFA and AlphaWallet were collaborating to issue 20,000 tickets for Euro 2020 matches based on the Ethereum blockchain.
