TV star Kevin O'Leary will only buy "clean" bitcoin

Shark Tank reality star Kevin O'Leary said he will only invest in Bitcoin mined fromusing clean energy.

The investor noted in an interview with CNBC that for him, "digital gold" is divided into two types:

  • pure coin – mined using green energy.
  • dirty (bloody) – mined with carbon emissions.

Kevin deliberately distances himself from the "bloody" coins mined in China, noting that he will never buy them, but at the same time does not specify exactly where he buys "clean" coins.

I don’t buy coins if I don’t know where and when they were mined. Not from China. No "bloody" coins "

Discussion about replacing non-renewable resources forMining crypto assets for green and reducing harm to the environment has been going on for a long time. According to Digiconomist, in April, annual electricity consumption for mining reached 93.8 TWh – new all-time high.

Every year, cryptocurrency mining emits more than 60 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

O'Leary intends to invest 3% of his assets in the first cryptocurrency only if he is confident in the "carbon-free origin of his coins."
