The US Army will put into service combat laser machines with a power of 50 kW in September

The US Army will commission 4 short-range mobile air defense systems using 50 kW directed energy beams to destroy targets.

According to Lieutenant General Neil Thurgood, combat vehicles, called Guardian ("Guardian"), should enter service in September 2022. They are being created on the basis of Stryker armored personnel carriers, equipped with laser weapons, which will be powered by batteries charged from diesel generators.

The new systems are currently undergoing trials that will last until spring.

Most of the equipment was developedtwo defense contractors: Northrop Grumman and Raytheon Technologies. The latter also created a special virtual environment designed to train military personnel to operate laser weapons.

Additionally, this allowed for feedback from soldiers to make design changes to improve usability.
