The UK Treasury has opened a vacancy for the position of head of the CBDC division

UK Treasuryhas posted a vacancy for the position of the future head of the department responsible for the rulemaking and technological support for the issuance of digital currency by the Bank of England.

So far Great Britain has not made a final decisiondecisions on whether it should issue a state-owned cryptocurrency (CBDC), as the procedure for approving the design and likely uses of the Central Bank's digital currency is under discussion. However, Bank of England (BoE) Deputy Governor Jon Cunliffe opined that the collapse of cryptocurrency exchange FTX and its impact on the industry as a whole proved the need for a digital pound.

“The successful candidate will lead the Treasury's work on the digital pound, the UK Central Bank's cryptocurrency,” it said.

According to the department, the unitresponsible for rulemaking and technological support for the issuance of CBDC, will become an independent department in the treasury structure. However, the role of the future head of CBDC will fit into the existing payments and financial technology team and will not compete with the current head of crypto assets and digital currencies.

In contrast to the position of the Ministry of Finance, the managerBank of England's Andrew Bailey said he was skeptical about continuing development of a digital pound, especially after European finance ministers backed further work on a digital euro. Bailey believes that before developing a digital pound, there needs to be a consensus on what problems it will solve.
