OmniVision has created the OV6948, which has been listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's smallest commercial image sensor.

The chip has dimensions of only 0.575x0.575x0.232 mm andwas installed in a full camera module 0.65x0.65 mm. The device provides a viewing angle of 120 degrees with a focusing range of 3-30 mm and the ability to shoot at a speed of 30 frames per second.

It can be used in a catheter or endoscope with a diameter of 1 mm to obtain 200x200 color images. Along with potential use in various medicalprocedures, technology can also find application in industry.

Such a camera can become part of disposableresearch devices, making them compact and efficient, and the procedures themselves are more comfortable for the patient. They will not require sterilization, repair and minimize the risk of cross-contamination.
