The new Monero algorithm fights against asics and stimulates mining on the CPU

To combat ASIC devices, the Monero team carried out a hard fork, introducing a new algorithm for proving the work done by RandomX.

The system-wide update has changedbasic principle of mining. In order to provide protection against specialized integrated circuits, the PoW RandomX algorithm uses random code execution and memory-oriented calculation methods.

In addition, the new protocol optimizes cryptocurrency mining using central processing units (CPUs), which should help strengthendecentralized network. As a result, mining on video cards (GPUs) will become more complicated.

Such changes are aimed at protecting the network from ASIC, which, according to developers, contribute to centralization due to the small number of equipment manufacturers.

Although most cryptocurrency developersare trying to fight ASICs in one way or another, but the creator of BitTorrent believes that in this way they reduce the complexity of the network and simplify the 51% attack.
