Former presidential candidate andUtah Republican Senator Mitt Romney inquired from intelligence officials about how they assess cryptocurrency threats and what specific steps are being taken to solve these problems. He said:
I am not a member of the Banking Committee and I am notI understand how cryptocurrencies work. However, I believe that it will be much more difficult for you to do your job if you cannot track your money. In this regard, I wonder – Shouldn't our country make some efforts to solve the problem of cryptocurrencies.
In response to a question, FBI Chief Ray said that the agency is already working on these issues. He added:
For us, cryptocurrencies are seriousproblem, and we assume that this problem will become more and more. At the moment, it’s hard for me to answer whether any regulations will help solve it.
In addition, Ray said the FBI is already trackingcryptocurrency transactions using “available tools”. The head of the bureau of investigations also said that if the States do not keep up with new technologies, they may soon be “isolated”.
