The creator of the term "metaverse" announced the launch of a cryptocurrency startup

Science fiction writer Neal Stephenson will launch his own blockchain Lamina1, focused on metaverses andaugmented reality.

The project also involves the former presidentBitcoin Foundation Peter Vessenes. According to him, the first iteration of the blockchain will be something between “a friendly fork and a partnership” with Avalanche. However, these plans exist so far in words.

The project investors included the co-founderEthereum Joseph Lubin, PSL Ventures managing director Jeff Entress, billionaire Matthew Roszak, CLO Transparent Systems Patrick Merck and DLTx COO David Johnston.

It was Neal Stevenson in the 1992 novel SnowCrash first used the term «metaverse». The book describes the metaworld as a virtual urban environment into which people find themselves through the Internet and VR glasses. The work touches on the themes of social inequality, totalitarianism, advertising and virtual real estate.

Today the writer admits that 30 years ago he did not predict everything in the visualization of metaverses.

«When I wrote Snow Crash, I didn't expect video games. They were the ones who made 3D graphics cheap enough to reach a mass audience,” Stevenson said.

He also suggested that the development of most metasites will focus on monitors rather than VR headsets.

The testnet and beta version of Lamina1 is planned to be launched at the end of 2022. The ultimate goal of the developers is to create an immersive 3D metaverse inspired by Stevenson's novel.

Let us recall that in April, American rapper Snoop Dogg announced that he would create digital marijuana farms in the metaverse of the MOBLAND project.
