The Bank of Russia plans to release a prototype of the digital ruble platform by the end of the year

The Bank of Russia intends to release a prototype of the digital ruble platform by the end of the year and begin testing it in2022. This was announced at the online event of the Russian School of Economics (NES), Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank Alexei Zabotkin, reports RIA Novosti.

According to Zabotkin, the prototype will representit is "some technological platform that can be twisted in the hands, but within the framework of which it will not be possible to make real transactions yet."

Testing rounds are planned for next year "on the basis of the prototype, taking into account its completion", he added.

At the end of 2020, the head of the Bank of Russia ElviraNabiullina said that testing the digital ruble could begin in 2021. She also said that the appearance of the digital ruble will not affect lending rates, and there are no plans to launch deposits and loans in digital rubles.
