Telegram Unveils TON Catchain Consensus Mechanism Features

Telegram co-founder Nikolai Durov published a description of the Telegram Open Network consensus protocol called Catchain.

According to the document, Catchain isByzantine Generals' Problem (BFT) algorithm running on a PoS blockchain, which is broadly reminiscent of the protocols used in NEO or Cosmos. BFT provides a solution to the reliability problem even if some nodes are unreliable. Therefore, Catchain will work effectively until more than a third of the nodes become fraudulent.

Each new block will be created in approximately 5 seconds perthe process of the generation round, in which the validators have a limited time for approval, or otherwise the network skips it.

The system will check all blocks when they areformation, not after closing. At the same time, the roles of validators will be clearly divided: some will create blocks, while others will put him to a vote, in which all the remaining will take part.

The main Telegram chain will be able to have up to 100 validators, and its branches will have 10-30.

Despite legal proceedings with the US financial regulator, Telegram previously released a preliminary version of the wallet for Gram.
