After years of studying central bank-issued digital currency, the Riksbank is launchingPilot project for testing technical solutions for electronic crown.

The solution will be based on blockchain technology, the goal of the project is for the electronic crown to function as a complement to cash.

As written on the Riksbank website, testing is being carried out jointly with Accenture and will last until February 2021.

Currently, many central banks are exploring the possibility of launching a digital currency issued by the central bank. Among them are Japan, China, Turkey, Sweden, Switzerland, etc.
