Starbucks Tracks Coffee on Microsoft Blockchain

Thanks to Microsoft, Starbucks has launched a new initiative to track its products on a blockchain.

As Bloomberg reports, from yesterday the customers of the well-known coffee network inThe USA will be able to scan the code on pakets with coffee and find out where the grains came from and where they were roasted, as well as receive a consultation on their preparation.

In an analogous manner, the company will supply farmscode, with the help of which they can control their products. Until now, they did not know in what mixtures their grains were used, and now with the help of a new system they can receive all the information.

The goal of the company is to increasethe level of trust of consumers, especially young and environmentally insecure consumers. In addition, this is done from the competition from the side of small coffee shops, where the coffee is roasted in the back of the store.

Starbucks chief executive officer for coffee, tea and cocoa Michelle Burns noted:

“For nearly two decades, we couldTrack each batch of coffee from a specific farm. This allowed us to create the basis for the creation of a convenient and user-friendly tool, which ensures the confidence and assurance of the customer.

The new tool was developed in collaborationwith Microsoft, but technical details are still unknown. It is quite possible that it is based on a closed registry, which cannot be called a full-fledged blockchain.
