Solana will introduce its first cryptocurrency smartphone

Saga's Android-based mobile phone will work with web3 apps.The device is equipped with a storage functionprivate keys.

Solana Mobile, a subsidiary of Solana Labs,announced the Saga crypto-smartphone based on Android with the function of storing private keys and decentralized application store Web3. According to the developers, integration with the Solana blockchain will simplify the management of digital assets and conduct web3 transactions.

The smartphone is designed and manufactured by OSOM, an Android development company whose team has experience building computing hardware for Google, Apple and Intel.

The Saga will feature a 6.6-inch OLED display and12 GB RAM. The built-in security element Seed Vault stores private keys and SID phrases on the phone separately from applications. The smartphone will have two physical SIM cards and a USB-C-C connector, equipped with protection against data transfer when the charging cable is turned on.

Solana Mobile expects to release the phone byearly 2023. The estimated price of the phone will be around $1,000, and the device is available for pre-order for a $100 deposit.

The Solana project is based in San Francisco and has beenfounded in 2017, in 2018 the first version of the testnet was launched. Solana was founded by Dr. Eric Williams, BREW OS developer Greg Fitzgerald, and former Qualcomm and Dropbox developer Anatoly Yakovenko.

Apart from Solana's Saga phone, other similar cryptophone designs were HTC's Exodus, Sirin Labs' Finney phone, and Samsung's KlaytnPhone from Samsung's Galaxy Note line.
