Six central banks agree to jointly explore digital currency

Central banks of Japan, the European Union,The United Kingdom, Sweden, Canada and Switzerland, together with the Bank for International Settlements, created a working group to conduct research in the field of digital currencies of the central bank.

Financial institutions have agreed to share their own experiences with other participants and join forces in exploring the prospects for the use of CBDCs.The group will explore the use cases of digital currencies, their economic, functional and technical base, as well as interoperability.At the same time, it willcoordinate their activities with the Financial Stability Board, the Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructure and other similar structures.

The research group will be led by the head of the Innovation Center of the Bank for International Settlements, Benoit Cour, and the Deputy Governor of the Bank of England, John Cunliffe, and will includehigh-ranking representatives of cooperating Central Banks.

Former Chairman of the European CentralKristin Lagarde Bank also noted the increased interest of several countries in digital currencies, and also said that the ECB should take a leading position in this area, and not watch the progress from the outside.
