San Marino will start issuing NFT vaccination passports

Non-fungible tokens (NFT), proof of vaccination, will be created on the VeChain blockchain.

The authorities of the Republic of San Marino accepted"Decree-law" that will allow residents to issue digital passports for vaccination against coronavirus. Passports will be generated as non-fungible tokens (NFT) on the public VeChain blockchain and linked to the owner's medical history. The technical partner of San Marino is the blockchain company DNV.

Digital vaccination passports will contain two QR codes for data verification:

  • The first QR-code complies with the requirements of the European Union and can be checked by organizations operating on its territory;
  • The second QR code can be checked by anyone, whereverwhatever. Scanning the QR code provides access to a web application where you can check the validity of the certificate by binding it to the NFT token.

“Anyone can check a certificate withoutthe need to download a specific application. The use of the VeChain blockchain and non-fungible token technology (NFT) allows us to increase confidence in the authenticity of information, reducing the risk of counterfeiting, ”said Renato Grottola, Director of Development and Innovation at DNV.

NFT tokens are unique and not divisible. Such tokens are used to confirm ownership of an object; it cannot be replaced without the consent of the owner.
