Russian experts announced an increase in cases of hidden mining on computers of government agencies

In Russia, attackers are increasingly using the computing resources of government agencies and large companies to hidden cryptocurrency mining. This was stated by Deputy Director of the National Coordination Center for Computer Incidents (NCCSC) Nikolai Murashov, Interfax reports.

“Cryptocurrency mining cases have been identified usinginfected information resources of government organizations. In this case, the attackers infect the web pages, and mining is carried out at the moment of their viewing in the browser, ”- he said.

According to him, two citizens of the Russian Federation have already been prosecuted for such fraudulent acts against large organizations.

Murashov noted the vulnerability of Russian computers to mining attacks:

“The cost of most virtual coins is veryhigh, so there are many who want to easily earn money. Attackers break into computers of ordinary users and use their computing resources for their own purposes. ”

The deputy head of the NCCTC also stated that this yearblocked about 12 thousand "foreign information resources that were used by attackers to harm our country," and more than six thousand malicious sites - at the request of foreign partners.

“The ratio of the data voiced by me demonstrates that the main centers for the distribution of malware and botnet management are located outside our country,” he stressed.

Recall in October of the accused of miningcryptocurrencies at the workplace of an employee of the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Experimental Physics were sentenced to 3 years and 3 months in prison and fined about 200 thousand rubles. The second accused received a suspended sentence of 4 years and a fine of 250 thousand rubles, the third court imposed a fine of 450 thousand rubles and forbade him to work in the civil service and in local authorities for 2.5 years.
