Roskomnadzor plans to ban the use of mesh networks

The “Main Radio Frequency Center” subordinate to Roskomnadzor published on the government portalprocurement contract, according to which it is planned to block mesh networks, including TON.

As part of the public procurement, it will be carried outresearch of popular mesh networks such as Yggdrasill, cjDNS, Briar, Signal Offline and FireChat. At the same time, it is planned to develop methods for degrading data transmission (to the point of complete network degradation), as well as methods for identifying and limiting/blocking this type of traffic.

Researchers will analyze IoT networks andprotocols, including cryptographic traffic protection. The various threats posed by IoT networks will be subject to analysis. We are talking about the possible provision of access to information that is subject to restriction. Also, with the help of IoT attacks on means and communication networks can be carried out.

In addition to IoT networks, Roskomnadzor plansblock some blockchains, including Telegram Open Network (TON). It is also planned to block networks based on anonymous connections, such as TOR, I2P, Freenet, Zeronet and so on.

Let us remind you that Roskomnadzor recently blocked several cryptocurrency sites. By decision of the Nyandoma District Court, five more resources were blocked in the Arkhangelsk region.
