In March 2019, Los Angeles announced that it would undergo a major restructuring and move from its own server in Los Angeles to the state data center of the California Department of Technology in Sacramento. The cost of the transfer is estimated at no less than $ 10 million. Los Angeles CIO Ted Ross says that this step will solve the problem of recruiting people to replace the rapidly retiring experienced local server staff.

New York is afraid to implement AI

Singapore Foreign Minister VivianBalakrishnan believes that AI will become the main criterion for the development of cities: “AI will change the world, and the cities that master AI will be ahead. Due to possible dangers, New York authorities noted the need to develop an automation control algorithm and canceled practical testing of AI elements in city management systems. Sidewalk Labs Conflict With Toronto Residents

In September last year, the company won a tender for the development of the Toronto area, which turned into a conflict with the residents of the city.

Sidewalk Labs must establish infrastructure forcyclists and self-driving cars, combined with heated asphalt, automated mail delivery, solar panels and geothermal energy extraction systems. In addition, the work plan includes systems for the storage and distribution of electricity and waste separation, automatic heating and cooling of premises, smart housing and communal services, etc.  

The conflict arose because of disagreements of residents of the area.with the architects of the company, who simply did not take into account the wishes of people in the arrangement of the pier and the architecture of some individual buildings. A serious scandal flared up, as a result of which the development plan can be changed in accordance with the ideas of local residents. The decision on whether to move forward with the Sidewalk Labs plan will be made until March 31, 2020.

Open Source in Paris

One of the important trends of smart cities isopen source. In 2019, activists began to raise the issue of programming for government agencies. They believe that a code developed with state money must be open. Naturally, this does not concern defense and national security issues.
