The Presidents of the Russian Federation and Turkey took part in the ceremony of commissioning the Turkish Stream gas pipeline.The live broadcast from Istanbul was carried out by the TV channel"Vesti". During the ceremony, Putin and Erdogan turned on a symbolic valve, which marked the official start of the gas pipeline. Together with them, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic did the same.
Vladimir Putin thanked in his speechPresident of Turkey for his political will in implementing the project: “The successful implementation of a large-scale joint project to build a trans-Black Sea gas pipeline clearly demonstrates that the Russian-Turkish strategic partnership is producing significant, tangible results. The interaction between Russia and Turkey is steadily developing in almost all areas. Despite the difficult situation in the world and attempts by a number of international players to hinder the expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation between our countries, the work is proceeding as usual.”
He also noted that the export of Russian gasto Turkey has been carried out for 30 years already. The Russian President also emphasized that the supply of Russian gas via the Turkish Stream will be of great importance not only for the economy of Turkey and the Black Sea region, but will also have a positive impact on the development of many southern European countries and will contribute to increasing the energy security of Europe as a whole.
Putin also mentioned the worsening geopolitical situationsituation related to the conflict between the US and Iran. “We live in a complex world, and, unfortunately, in the region in which we are located, there are serious tendencies towards aggravation of the situation. But Turkey and Russia show completely different examples – an example of interaction and cooperation for the benefit of our peoples and the peoples of all of Europe, the whole world.”
Recep Tayyip Erdogan thanked Russia andVladimir Putin for cooperation and friendship. According to him, the goal is to make Turkey a global energy center. Erdogan in his speech also said that the Middle East countries should not allow now to make the whole region a center of fire and war. Turkey does not want to achieve any global tension, he stressed.
The head of Gazprom Alexei Miller said thatgas pipeline capacity is 31.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year, fuel will come from Western Siberia, from the Yamal Peninsula. He also noted that the offshore part of the pipeline was built in record time - 15 months.
Turkish Stream - an international projecta gas pipeline from the Anapa region of the Krasnodar Territory of Russia along the bottom of the Black Sea to the European part of Turkey will allow Turkey to become a gas hub and increase the reliability of gas supply to Southern and Southeast Europe. The project began in October 2016. The first line of the pipeline is intended for gas supplies to Turkish consumers, the second - for gas supply to the countries of Southern and Southeast Europe. In November 2019, it was reported that both lines of the pipeline were filled with gas.
