Pavel Durov stops working on Telegram Open Network

On May 12, the CEO of Telegram published a post in which he described the reasons for his withdrawal from theblockchain project TON.

In a post entitled “What was TON and why was it no longer”, Durov wrote that such a decision was made in response to the court’s ban on distributing Gram tokens anywhere in the world. He's writing:

A U.S. court has ruled that Gram will be banned not only in the U.S., but around the world.Because, as the court said, U.S. citizens can find a way to connect to the platform after launch.In order to avoid this, Gram tokens cannot be distributed anywhere – even though all other countries supportrelease of TON.

After the injunction to work in the USA, the teamTelegram planned to issue TON tokens in other jurisdictions. A court later banned the company from distributing tokens anywhere. Durov writes that the world community is still dependent on the United States in the areas of finance and technology:

Unfortunately, we - 96% of the world's population living in other places - are dependent on people who are elected by 4% of the population living in the United States.

According to the CEO of Telegram, such a court decision violates sovereigntyother jurisdictions. 

Such a court decision implies that otherscountries do not have the right to decide what is good for their inhabitants and what is not. If the United States suddenly decides to ban coffee and demands that coffee houses in Italy be completely closed because Americans can go there, I doubt that someone will comply with this requirement.

Durov said that Telegram will not cooperatewith no companies to launch TON technology. Recall that recently, network developers and validators launched their own Free TON blockchain. Apparently, Durov supports such an initiative. At the conclusion of the message, he writes:

I want to end this post wishing everyone good luckfighters for decentralization, balance and equality. You are fighting for a just cause. This battle may be the most important battle of our generation. Hope you succeed where we failed.
