Odessa, distributing malware for gray mining, was arrested

A student from one of the Odessa universities successfully modified a virus acquired on a hacker forum and turned it intohim in cryptocurrency gray mining software.

At one of the forums a young pirate boughtmalware, which is then turned into a crypto jacking program. The program, improved by the student, made it possible to use the computing power of victims' computers for hidden cryptocurrency mining. According to representatives of the cyber police, after the modification, the suspect was selling this virus on various sites.

During a search in an Odessa apartment, law enforcement officers seized all computer equipment for examination, and the suspect was charged; now he faces up to five years in prison.

Gray mining is becoming more and more popular in Ukraineand around the world, and cyber police are increasingly reporting on stopping the unequal actions of hackers. Last year, the cybercrime department managed to identify and arrest an attacker who was extracting cryptocurrency at the expense of more than one and a half million Ukrainians.
