Nvidia accidentally unlocked mining when updating RTX 3060 graphics card driver

Graphics chip manufacturer Nvidia admitted that it mistakenly released a driver that allowsbypass the mining speed limit on the GeForce RTX 3060 video card.

An Nvidia spokesman confirmed that the latterdriver update 470.05 was erroneously released with code intended for use only by Nvidia developers, thus removing the cryptocurrency mining rate limiter.

«The developer version of the driver included code used for internal development that removes the hashrate limiter on the RTX 3060 in some configurations».

In February, Nvidia announced that its GeForceThe RTX 3060 will be protected from miners - the driver would halve performance if it noticed a typical mining load. The company said that the protocol cannot be hacked. This limitation was introduced in order to reduce the shortage of video cards in the market, caused by the increased popularity of cryptocurrency mining. The company explained that they want GeForce cards to be used by gamers.

But the protection was bypassed thanks to specialistsNvidia itself - the company has posted a driver for developers with disabled protection from miners. The erroneously released update was removed from open sources, but it is already in full swing on the Internet. It turned out that the driver works without any special modifications and allows you to increase the hash rate to 47-48 MH / s, versus 20-25 MH / s that occur when using other software versions.

Last week it was reported that the restriction could be bypassed. However, experts argued that it was impossible to do this without access to the tools of Nvidia employees.
