Netherlands Central Bank wants to develop digital currency

The Dutch bank said it is interested in using digital currency and intends to play a leading role in the development of the central bank's digital currency (CBDC).

According to the publication, recently turnovercash in the country has declined markedly, therefore, citizens are increasingly using the money issued by the central bank, preferring private payment systems. In this regard, the Central Bank of the Netherlands became interested in the issue of issuing a new type of money that would be better adapted to current realities.

The publication also says that the Dutch Central Bank is ready to play a leading role in testing the digital euro if the European Central Bank begins to experiment in this direction.

This is not the first time that EU membersexpress their interest in the development of CBDC. For example, in March, the Central Bank of Sweden proposed launching an international hub for the study of digital currencies.
