Muscovite lost more than 700 thousand rubles in bitcoins due to the substitution of a SIM card

A Moscow resident contacted the police because of the theft of cryptocurrency committed through a SIM card swap. About itreports City News Agency «Moscow» with reference to the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Russian capital.

According to the victim, the unknown replaced the SIM card registered with his father, and then sold 1.09 bitcoins using the Telegram bot (more than 700 thousand rubles at the rate at the time of writing).

Law enforcement authorities have already begun verification under Art. 144-145 Code of Criminal Procedure.

Recall that in January, 18-year-old hacker Samy Bensaki was charged with four criminal charges of fraud for $ 50 million in cryptocurrency committed by substituting SIM cards.

In addition, in November last year, scammers were arrested in the United States for defrauding Bitcoin businessmen out of several hundred thousand dollars using SIM swapping.
