Most Ethereum nodes are still not ready for Istanbul hard fork

Only 41.3% of Ethereum nodes upgraded to the current version ahead of the Istanbul hard fork, which was activatedonly three days left.

Istanbul activation will happen on block 9,069,000- tentatively December 7th. The update contains several suggestions for improving Ethereum (EIP) regarding compatibility with Zcash, gas calculation mechanisms, and other aspects of network efficiency.

Istanbul is seen by developers asa kind of bridge between the network in its current form based on the Proof-of-Work algorithm and the Beacon Chain - the first phase of the transition to Ethereum 2.0, where the Proof-of-Stake algorithm is provided.

Hard fork after hard fork

Some details aboutthe upcoming postponement of the so-called complexity bomb. According to CoinDesk, activation of EIP 2387 is likely to take place on January 6. This will delay the mechanism by 4,000,000 blocks or approximately 611 days.

EIP 2387 will be the third in a row deferralbombs of difficulty. First, this mechanism was extended by 3 million blocks (18 months) as a result of the Byzantium hard fork, and then by 2 million blocks in February 2019 during the Constantinople update.
