Mining equipment worth more than ₽100 million stolen in Irkutsk

The organizers of the hotel-farm for cryptocurrency mining stopped payments to customers and disappeared without returning themexpensive equipment. The police opened a case of fraud on an especially large scale.

Mining hotel organizers in Irkutskare suspected of fraud and theft of customer equipment, the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Irkutsk Region reported. The miners handed over their devices to the representatives of the "hostel". At some point, the organizers of the hotel disappeared, stopping payments and not returning expensive equipment to customers.

The police opened a criminal case. In total, about 100 clients were affected, each of which placed equipment in the amount of 1 million rubles, according to TASS.

The police determined that from November 2021 to May 2022years, suspects have attracted citizens who want to place their equipment in a mining hotel. Clients were offered prices for renting space and electricity below market rates. Computing equipment was required to be transferred as quickly as possible due to the allegedly limited number of places.

According to the terms of the agreement, customersdisclosed the actual location of the equipment, and only the representative of the company had data for access to programs that allow managing the mined cryptocurrency.

Investigators of the Intermunicipal Department of the Ministry of Internal AffairsRussia "Irkutsk" initiated a criminal case under the article "Fraud on an especially large scale." Various material evidence was seized from the office, including computer equipment and documentation.

Victims of the illegal actions of the “mining hotel”, who had not yet applied to law enforcement agencies, were offered to report themselves to the police.

In April, a police officer was detained in Khakassiawhen trying to steal mining equipment worth 550 thousand rubles. According to investigators, the defendant used operational information about the location of the crypto-farm and on April 16, with two accomplices, entered the premises, trying to steal mining devices.
